This is my local coffee shop and I have to say that I love it! It is super cute, and usually not too hard to get a table. The food is pretty decent and the coffee is fantastic. I have mixed opinions on the staff, sometimes they are super friendly and sometimes not at all. I guess it depends on who is working. It is definitely what I would think of when I think of a Manhattan coffee shop. Almost right out of a movie. I think they have wireless (not sure as I have never brought my lap top), but a good place to sit and read or maybe meet a friend for a quiet convo and cup of coffee. Great spot!

Solid coffee and espresso drinks, good chai, and a nice assortment of blended cold drinks and even ice cream floats. I was less impressed by their tea options - all by the bag, and not the highest quality - but at least the prices are reasonable ($2 for a large). Their selection of baked goods, on the other hand, did appeal - very tasty looking, and all from quality local places, such as Donut Plant. I look forward to my meyer lemon donut. I'd love to try their carrot cake and macaroons, too.
They also have a fair deal of sandwich and soup type food, quite fresh and good, though some is prepackaged, and cold bottled drinks to choose from. My friend enjoyed her skinny pumpernickel baguette with cream cheese and lox. The tables are a bit small and dirty (all were covered with some degree of residue and/or crumbs), and I don't like the chairs which fail to provide adequate back support. If you can get the window seat with cushions, do.
The decor makes up for these flaws; old-fashioned, with cream-coloured walls and cute brass lamps attached to the walls, the old school coat hook with Javier noted, and a clean and well stocked bathroom. Decent music, too, and not excessively loud.
As noted, excellent friendly service, and while this place wasn't empty mid-afternoon on a Sunday, it wasn't packed either. It felt populated but not crowded. In an area rather bereft of independent, laid back cafes, this place is a find. Great hours to boot - open every day till 11 pm or later, even on Sundays!

I love Gotham. Always friendly service, always great coffee, always nice atmosphere. They have good food: soups, sandwiches, salads, quiches, baked goods. And when you get a sandwich, you can either get a bag of chips, an apple or banana with it. It's really nice inside too. Whenever I'm on my break from school, I head over there to read.

This place was ok. Nothing special, and the coffee was pretty expensive for what it was. Pricier than Starbucks, and mediocre coffee. They had a large array of pastries and other food, but the donut I got was so-so, I think it was a whole wheat donut which is a little bizarre in my opinion. Also, this coffee was like crack... sent me on a long jittery walk all around uptown on only one cup. Some people may see this as a positive thing, but I didn't enjoy it so much. The ambiance can best be described as "lacking," and the place closes really early too, at 8 PM. Also, terrible elevator music playing really loudly ruined the atmosphere even more. I'm giving it three stars because it wasn't terrible, but I'd go to Starbucks instead of this place any day.

Much to my chagrin, I will give away another secret spot, mainly because I came to do some proof reading yesterday and there wasnt too much traffic for a Sunday afternoon...
Im not gonna let you close on me Gotham!! So listen up... this quaint and neatly signorial little cafe has everything you need to park and work; good coffee, Pom iced tea, salads, delicious chicken pomodoro sandwich, and looks. They have framed pictures of Paris in black & white peppered accross the walls, a signed picture of Jay Leno in front of the cash register (who is a secret regular?), and an old wooden coat rack to compliment the image. By the window, colorful throw pillows and a great bivouac for you to crawl into and read or people watch. Jazz music to bide your time, free wi-fi to consume it. Relax.
So uptowners, come to Gotham and carpe diem, or carpe coffee, and if you see Jay Leno or Yelper Javier M. sitting quietly on a corner, D O N O T A P P R O A C H !

I would give it 5 stars except I went to study there today mainly to use the free wi-fi and found out THEY DON"T HAVE IT! I guess you can pawn off a neighboring signal but when we asked the owner, they said they don't have free internet--all very perplexing.
With that said the coffee shop itself is super cute and neat with a clean bathroom. The menu is quite extensive with breakfast and lunch items (we tried the organic oatmeal served with brown sugar, cinnamon, and raisins for $2.95 (delicious and creamy) and the bagel sdwich (scrambled egg, cheese, tomato) for $3.95--typical). Their drinks sounded really good and they have a nice selection of prepackaged stuff as well.
For lunch we tried their 1/2 sandwich and bowl of soup $6.99. The swiches are premade but still very tasty and their lentil chili was quite good and hearty.
I would definitelyy go back just for the brunch but it would be so much better if they had wifi!

For a coffee shop this is my dream! It is a super neighborhood coffee house that has yummy sandwiches, muffins and coffee. There is plenty of seating there also and FREE WI-FI which allows me to spend even more time there. I think this place might just become a daily ritual for me. I might get hooked on coffee yet.

A great Neighborhood cafe! Right at the corner of 68th and 2nd, Gotham Coffee House is a great place to call your own. It has plenty of tables and most importantly, plenty of outlets for using their free, fast, Wi-Fi.
The coffee is good. They range from 1.50 for a small house brew to about $4.5-5 for a large specialty drink (Gotham coffee float--coffee w/ your favority ice cream).
For breakfast, there are fresh homemade waffles, bagels and croissant sandwiches, as well as eggs. Lunch menu includes soups, salads, sandwiches, paninni's, quiche, and small selection of desserts. I had a very good hot pressed chicken tomesti pannini filled w/ white chicken breast strips, stewed tomatoes, onions, and herbs for 6.99. Nothing on the food menu is over 6.99, so it's fairly reasonable for a UES establishment. They also deliver w/ a $10 min!
Did i say there are plenty of tables and outlets for the fast Wi-Fi? You'll find me here studying quite often--I only wish this place opened later as they close at 8 pm M-Sat and 7 pm Sunday. :(

This is my fave cafe in my neighborhood. Most importantly, they make a mean iced chai. But it doesn't hurt that they've got a nice selection of savories and sweets, either. You'll find me there on weekends, hunkering down over a writing project or two, or out on the benches catching up with friends from the neighborhood. Dog lovers take note: They keep a bowl of fresh water under the benches for use by pet walkers enjoying a caffeine fix.
